Street Food: Attacking Obesity & Wiping Out Food Deserts One City Block at a Time
Taking on the twin crises of "food desert" neighborhoods and obesity, cities are using multiple approaches to give families access to fresh fruits and vegetables, including corner stores, bodegas, farmers markets, food trucks and even pushcarts. With funding from The Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, New York City has launched the country's largest pushcart initiative to deliver fresh produce to underserved neighborhoods.
