WE BELIEVE … that every young man and woman possesses the ability to be a good leader. American Explorers engages youth through a collection of programs and hands-on learning experiences.

In Atlanta, American Explorers is a comprehensive leadership development program giving youth from Atlanta’s historic Westside communities pathways to leadership. Through a collection of programs and hands-on learning experiences, American Explorers become change agents, educators, community builders, entrepreneurs and stewards of their communities.

The American Explorers leadership development program involves year-round opportunities and activities for participants to engage in school and community service projects, leadership cultivation, and collaborative experiences. Participation requires youth to meet annual benchmarks and to identify ways in which they can improve their Circles of Influence.

In Montana, American Explorers provides a rustic campus for nonprofit organizations to operate their youth-based, outdoor leadership, and natural resource conservation programs. The American Explorers Basecamp seeks to serve as a nexus for innovation and educational exchange in Montana and the greater Northern Rocky Mountain region.

Students selected to participate in the American Explorers program will be fully sponsored. All costs associated with summer expeditions and year-round leadership activities will be covered as an investment in the development of young leaders.

Our selection process ensures that we assemble a diverse class of students who are driven, enthusiastic, have the potential to lead and are committed to participating in all four years of the program. Students must currently be in the 8th or 9th grade and reside in the 30310, 30311, 30314 or 30318 zip codes of Atlanta’s Westside neighborhoods in order to participate.

To be considered, submit a completed program application, a recommendation form (to be filled out by a teacher, coach, school administrator, mentor, etc.) and participate in individual and group interviews.

All application and information can be found at www.americanexplorers.org.
