Improving Mental Health & Well-Being in Georgia
Mental health challenges like stress, anxiety and depression affect millions of Americans and many people don’t know where to start when it comes to improving their mental health. To help provide solutions to this growing need, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation partnered with the Ad Council on a “Georgia Sports” version of the “Love, Your Mind” campaign to expand mental health awareness and resource access across the state of Georgia. In addition to the foundation and the Ad Council, campaign partners include the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Dream, University of Georgia, Atlanta United FC, Clark Atlanta University and PGA TOUR. The mission of the campaign is to change the cultural conversation around mental health through normalization, education and connection.
Accessible Mental Health Resources
The “Love, Your Mind” campaign offers inspiration, community and educational resources to encourage people to be more open and proactive with their mental health. The goal of the effort is to create a more open and accepting society related to this topic, thus normalizing conversations and reducing the stigma around mental health. Online resources available through the campaign include interactive tools, links to local support organizations, how-to articles, directories, forums and helplines.
In addition to mental health resources, the campaign features Georgia-based athletes sharing mental health strategies that help them thrive while competing in sports and in their daily lives. Kevin Willis (former Atlanta Hawk), Jordin Canada (current Atlanta Dream), Brad Guzan (former Atlanta United FC) and Trinity Jones (former Clark Atlanta University Basketball) all contribute valuable mental health habits they routinely exercise for staying strong and focused.
Engagement & Impact
Since the Georgia campaign launched in December 2024, there have been over 117K website sessions originating from Georgia, and a 67% increase in average monthly website sessions originating from Georgia. These results highlight the roles sports organizations and digital outreach can play in reaching new audiences.
“Sports have the unique power to connect with people on many different levels, and athletes are often trusted, admired and relatable. When athletes speak openly about caring for their minds, sports fans listen,” said Elizabeth Brown, Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation Managing Director of Mental Health & Well-Being. “Georgia ranks among the highest in the nation for prevalence of mental health conditions, yet too many residents still don’t know where to turn for help or how to start the conversation. By partnering with the Ad Council, we’re connecting Georgians with mental health resources and reducing the stigma that keeps them from seeking support.”
Through its partnership with the Ad Council and Georgia’s sports community, the foundation is helping expand awareness of mental health resources and encouraging more people across Georgia to prioritize their mental well-being. The “Love, Your Mind” campaign brings together sports teams and resources to create a supportive dialogue that breaks down barriers and makes mental health support available to all Georgia residents.
