Our Roots
Arthur M. Blank, co-founder of The Home Depot and chairman of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, found inspiration in his mother Molly Blank’s commitment to tikkun olam, the Jewish principle of repairing the world through kindness. Molly’s impactful words, “You only pass through life once, so make it count,” reflect the spirit of giving that shaped Arthur’s philanthropic journey.
Established in 1995, the foundation has granted over $1.3 billion to charitable organizations, focusing primarily on Georgia and Montana. The foundation also supports founder-led initiatives for veterans, the military, and stuttering research.
In 2001, Blank’s purchase of Mountain Sky Guest Ranch led to an innovative associate-led giving model, which is now implemented across the Blank Family of Businesses. This approach empowers employees to support causes aligned with their values and business goals.
In a strategic realignment to address pressing societal challenges, the foundation’s board of directors committed in 2023 to accelerate philanthropy over the next decade. This focused approach targets five key areas of giving: Atlanta’s Westside, Democracy, Environment, Mental Health and Well-Being, and Youth Development.
Through strategic philanthropy and community engagement, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation continues its mission to unite people, fostering positive change and building a better world for all.
