MANAGING DIRECTOR, MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Elizabeth (Beth) Brown is a resilient and seasoned executive with over 20 years of leadership working in charitable foundations. Her career spans every aspect of philanthropy, from leading community foundations to advising clients on philanthropy in private banking, to advancing national policy efforts. Her areas of expertise and personal passions include community resilience, mental health and well-being, and purpose-driven leadership development.
As Managing Director for Mental Health & Well-Being within the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Beth will be leading the foundation’s wide-ranging efforts across this portfolio, a growing Founder-led Initiative focused on grants that provide resources, support, and a path to purpose to respond to the current mental health crisis.
Previously, Beth served as President & CEO for the Community Foundation Sonoma County. For nearly a decade she led the organization’s growth to over $230 million in charitable assets, 450 family funds, two regional affiliates, three supporting organizations, and a team of 20 staff. She transformed the business structure of the foundation and aligned its grant strategies with the greatest community needs, including focus on equity, early childhood education, affordable housing, mental health, and building support within immigrant communities. Her work also included representing foundations locally and nationally as frequent speaker, presenter, and media spokesperson on a range of topics including disaster philanthropy, community building and family philanthropy.
Over the course of her career, Beth worked at the national Council on Foundations, held two vice president positions in one of the country’s largest community foundations, and held several key roles in advising foundations, organizations, and families on a wide range of philanthropic issues.
Beth graduated with Honors from Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Writing from John Hopkins University. Beth lives with her husband, Tom, and is an avid yogini, meditator, and cook, who feels most alive when she is asking the big questions that inspire others to be more generous and joyful.
